Community-led Initiatives that are
Project Ready
Neighbourhood Houses are uniquely positioned as anchor institutions, deeply embedded in the fabric of our community and increasingly recognised (since COVID) for our ability to provide agile, place-based solutions. Our grassroots connections and trusted relationships make us ideally suited to not only respond to immediate community needs but also to look ahead, exploring long-term possibilities and preparing for the challenges of the future. These projects have been co-designed with this in mind,
and are ready to go when funding is secured.

HeatSAFE Houses - PILOT
Clunes Neighbourhood House is seeking to become the first Neighbourhood House in Victoria to pilot HEATsafe Houses: A Guide for Neighbourhood Houses in Clunes.
With a community particularly vulnerable to heat, and a timely level of readiness across community and via health and emergency management partners (through the recent Heatwave HELP project) an opportunity exists to accelerate the adoption of heatsafe practices in Clunes, creating a culture of climate adaption that would strengthen our town's resilience to all natural disasters.
We know that heat kills more people than any natural disaster combined. This project will not only save lives in our town, but also provide an evaluated and integrated (with health and emergency management frameworks) model that could be replicated in the 400+ Neighbourhood Houses across Victoria.
With more than $92,000 worth of in kind support secured, we are seeking an investment of $25,000 for local initiatives (such as cooling spaces - including shady spaces, phone tree, tool/adaptation library), network integration and evaluation.
