Clunes Community News – June 2026

As winter arrives in Clunes, this month's edition of Clunes Community News is filled with stories that remind us what makes our town such a special place to call home. The latest issue will hit letter boxes next week but will be available in cafes this weekend. A link to the online copy is below.

The feature story explores the idea that strong communities don't simply happen by chance. Through events like the recent Clunes Day Out, local groups, volunteers, businesses and residents came together to celebrate everything our town has to offer. From community organisations sharing a marquee to volunteers cooking BBQs and running activities, the day was a practical example of how connections between people help create a stronger, more resilient community.

This edition also highlights some of the important challenges facing regional Victoria. Allied Justice shares details of the Collaborate for Change initiative, a statewide project examining housing insecurity and affordability in rural communities. The article highlights the experiences of local people facing housing stress and the work being done to advocate for long-term solutions.

We're also celebrating local success. Congratulations to Olivia Kinnersley and Jackie Rogers, who have been awarded prestigious Youthrive Victoria scholarships through the support of Community Bank Creswick & District who have been huge advocates for local youth in our region. Their achievements demonstrate the talent, determination and potential of young people across our region.

History lovers will enjoy Peter Spark's fascinating article, The Quiet Watchers, which uncovers the story behind the Clunes Museum's remarkable taxidermy collection. These preserved birds and animals offer a glimpse into the region's wildlife and the curiosity of earlier generations who sought to understand and document the natural world.

There are also updates from the Clunes Farmers & Makers Market, Clunes Golf Club, Clunes Football Netball Club, local fishing enthusiasts, and details of upcoming community events. As always, this newsletter is a reflection of the people who make Clunes such a vibrant community.

Thank you to all the contributors, volunteers, local organisations and businesses who continue to share their stories and support local life.
