Aged Care Visitors Scheme for Clunes

One in three people are often lonely (according to the national statistics). But at this Friday's encore 'Let's Do Lunch', Nalina Phillips, the Volunteer Visitor Program Officer from Elder Rights Victoria, will be sitting around the lunch table talking with all of us about a new collaboration that aims to reduce loneliness in Clunes.

A Collaboration with Clunes Neighbourhood House

"We know it's the simple things that can make the most difference," said Lana de Kort, Manager of Clunes Neighbourhood House, "In regional areas older people often don't have as many visitors as they might have if they lived nearer to family or could get out and about easily. This is something the Aged Care Visitors Scheme has known for decades. For years it has safely linked volunteers who like a chat and a cuppa, with people who'd love a visit."

In an exciting collaboration, Clunes Neighbourhood House and the Elder Rights Advocacy visitor program in this district are going to work together to make it easier for people to volunteer or register to be a part of the program.

"Our objective is to create more opportunities at all ages for friendship and companionship in Clunes," said Lana, "Being able to work with such a respected program to increase its impact in our town is exciting, especially as we know Clunes has an ageing population with many people living alone."

Find out more by joining us around the lunch table this Friday at Attitude, 25 Fraser Street, Clunes or call 5345 4078 to ask more.
