Just getting started with your job hunting?

Getting your first job can be tough. How do you know if your resume is any good? What do you put in a cover letter when you don’t have much experience? What do you say in an interview? Which jobs should you apply for? Would getting a licence, certificate or short qualification help? And if you live in a regional town like Clunes, there’s another problem: where do you actually go to get help with all of that? Well, this is the event for you!

We raised all these issues with Asuria, who already provide employment services from Clunes Neighbourhood House every Thursday, and they were totally able to help us out!

The TTW (transition to work) team at Asuria are coming to Clunes this school holidays to provide practical, one-on-one help with resumes and cover letters, job applications, interview preparation, driver licence pathways, training and education options, and building the confidence to take that next step.

The session is particularly suited to 16–24 year olds, whether you’re still at school, have recently finished, are looking for a job or simply aren’t sure what your next step should be.

You do not need to have everything figured out before you come. Bring your resume if you have one. Bring a job advertisement you’re thinking of applying for. Or just bring yourself and your questions!

The more people the better.

This is more than a one-off information session. Regional young people shouldn’t have to travel to another town just to get help writing a resume, preparing for an interview or figuring out how to get their first job. But to make the case for more local support, we need young people to turn up and use it.

So please don’t think, “I might go if I have time.”

Register. Put it in your calendar. Come along.

If you’re a parent, grandparent, teacher, employer, coach or someone else who knows a young person who could benefit, send this to them and encourage them to register. We’ve deliberately scheduled it during the school holidays so senior secondary students can take part. You don't have to just live in Clunes to access this. You can come from any of the surrounding areas!

The stronger the turnout, the stronger the message that young people in Clunes and surrounding communities need and will use locally accessible employment support. A huge thank you to the team at Asuria for their support in bringing these offerings to Clunes.
